A Place to Call Home

Recently, Habitat for Humanity of Smith County was made aware of a young woman who is purchasing a home through a local bank. Purchasing a home isn’t always newsworthy, but this particular purchase is.

You see, this young woman grew up in a Habitat for Humanity of Smith County home. Her parents purchased their home in 2003, when she was about 11 or 12 years old. This home provided stability, security and much more throughout her childhood. She grew up knowing what having a home means and is now providing this for her family through purchasing her own home.

As in this local story, decent, stable housing provides more than just a roof over someone’s head. It provides stability for families and children, a sense of dignity and pride, health, physical safety and security, and an increase of educational and job prospects. (source)

The impact of having a place to call home is far reaching and lasts a lifetime.
